CMS Comparisons

Pairs of platforms that can end up on the same shortlist, compared on facts you can check: price and billing term, fees on sales, upkeep and what you can take with you.

Comparisons

  • Comparison

Ownership and plugins against visual control and no server work, with costs and exit routes side by side.

  • Comparison

    Shopify vs WooCommerce

A hosted store against a free WordPress plugin, compared on fees, hosting, upkeep and who owns the data.

  • Comparison

    Squarespace vs Wix

Two hosted builders compared on price, design approach, store fees and what each lets you export.

How each comparison works

Every comparison opens with a short summary, then a table built from the same platform data used across the site: hosting model, software license, lowest paid entry price with its billing term, monthly billing, selling online, platform fees on sales, export, skill needed, upkeep, typical fit and the main thing to watch for. The sections that follow look at cost, editing, selling, upkeep and leaving later, and the page closes with plain "choose this if" guidance.

We do not award scores or name a winner. A comparison that ends with "Platform A wins 4.5 to 4.0" hides the fact that the half point came from features you may never use. Instead, each "choose this if" list ties the decision to your circumstances.

Comparing platforms not listed here

If your pair is not here, you can build your own comparison quickly:

  1. Open the two platform guides in separate tabs and read the key-facts boxes side by side.
  2. Use the comparison filter to set your must-haves and see which platforms remain.
  3. Put both platforms' plans into the first-year cost calculator, using the same sales and app assumptions for each.

The how we compare page explains where every figure comes from and how often we check it.

A note on fairness

As the footer of every page says, Cmsmeridia's owner also runs a web design business, which is not named or linked here. No platform pays us, and none of the links to platforms on this site earn a commission. The comparisons quote each platform's own documentation, including the parts the platform would rather you did not dwell on, such as export limits and fees on sales. If you think a comparison treats a platform unfairly or a figure is out of date, tell us and we will check it against the source.
